Despite the proposal’s additional thoughts around awareness building, the project feels more like a waste management program than a campaign geared toward shifting climate attitudes.
While the problem highlighted in this proposal is a very important one, and plastics are a large part of the climate issue, I don't feel this proposal adequately demonstrates how, if funded, this 'corporate foundation' would succeed in actually processing/recycling the plastic waste. It is highly reliant on the Indian government to approve, fund, build and maintain the processing plants (which is key to it's success) and the proposal doesn't demonstrate that there is any movement within the government to do so. I would like to know what the feasibility for the government to approve and fund such sites before granting money for this project. Further, there is no actual budget listed in this proposal that details the expenses. Also, my understanding of a corporate foundation is that it would be supported financially by a corporation or a set of private foundations. This proposal mentions private entities, but doesn't give enough details about the feasibility of these private entities to partner on this project, or provide examples of specific companies that are doing similar work in India. Ultimately, I feel like the authors of this proposal need to do more research to figure out how possible their solution is with the Indian government and private entities and NGOs within India, as the proposal is so reliant on these actors for its success.

The project's focus on reducing plastic waste is laudable, but enormous implementation challenges are described somewhat cavalierly, and the impact on climate change seems like an afterthought. The proposal gives the general impression of being a plastics recycling business plan with environmental benefits rather than a project to shift awareness, attitudes and behaviors on climate.
This proposal has the potential for high impact in India and also scalability if successful as it could be replicated in other countries and areas of the world. It not only helps reduce plastic waste, it also addresses employment issues, revenue for states, and provides companies a way to comply with the CSR mandate imposed by India. The systemic nature of this proposal is probably its most compelling point -- engaging state, corporate and NGO actors to participate in large-scale solutions that are replicable, meaningful and impactful.

Nimish Rajouria Nov 6, 2017 04:21 | Proposal creator Dear Judges, Below is a summary for the Additions/ Edits made to this proposal after the semi finalists selections. we have already send this proposal to NCC and NSS head offices and are awaiting a reply regarding their support. We have also requested them to start addressing this issue and spread awareness among the student volunteers and teachers. We propose to start the awareness program with a set of more mature students studying in the universities and soon collaborate the school going students in the ongoing activities for spreading awareness. School students work very actively and with full heart for such welfare activities. Also, any correct message from a student to the society is always tempting elders to do the right thing. University students can be assigned compulsory projects to join the awareness programs and projects regarding studies of plastic waste management trends, impact and reach of the awareness program, Problems faced in implementation of the proposal, solution to these problems, new and innovative additions to the existing system, ways to increase the efficiency of the system etc. This would definitely increase the knowledge of students and they would understand the urgent need of spreading awareness in the society. A team consisting of quality analysts (including govt. officials) shall keep a track of the progress and difficulties in implementation of the proposal and give solutions for overcoming all the shortcomings. Auditing team would conduct regular audits for the educational institutes as well as private firms for proper fund utilization in awareness programs and for private firms regarding the CSR transactions. The best way to spread awareness among the community is through television. The central authority can ask a few famous companies/brands to advertise this motion along with their product. Any company will be ready to support us since it will help them gain public trust Small kids can be inculcated with good practices which favors judicious use of plastics in schools. This can be easily accomplished by introducing a new subject which deals with all the good practices. In India, schools mainly focus on academics so this can bring a drastic change in the school structure for the betterment of people. Also habits get imprinted in the brains of kid easily compared to adults so targeting them will give much satisfying outputs. The idea of inculcating knowledge about the issue in primary schools will prove to be a big reason for the change in attitudes of children as well as their parents over a course of time. Schools and universities would also play a decisive role as students are the center of this proposal. Hence we expect full devotion and hard work from the most educated sector of the society. Schools and universities can hold conferences regarding the awareness programs and can even host big scale fests in collaboration with PWM committee and swachh bharat mission. Its important that the students remain the center of the project as India is a youth dominant country. Many NGOs run schools of their own and can easily initiate the idea of bringing in a compulsory subject on Waste Management and Good practices for primary school students. Regards, Team Rocket |
