I have experience in climate change impacts, adaptation, mitigation, and policy. Major clients in recent years have included the New York City Mayor's Office, the Architect of the Capitol, the Department of Energy National Renewable Energy Lab, the Departments of Defense and of Transportation, and GSA. I've helped implement Executive Order 13514 on greenhouse gas management.

I am currently senior scientist in the LMI climate change practice, and visiting scholar and professorial lecturer at George Washington University where I teach on these subjects at the graduate level in the Engineering Management and Systems Engineering Program.

At the National Science Foundation (NSF), I managed the research program in carbon cycle and biogeosciences and served on the interagency global change coordinating body. I also served with multiple programs that assess climate impacts. My work at NSF was recognized with the Director’s Award.

My academic research on hydroclimatology, downscaling, and the impacts of climate change focuses on topics such as high level nuclear waste disposal, hydroelectric facilities, bioclimatic responses, and stable isotopes of water. This work has been reported in more than 70 professional papers, more than 100 professional talks, and in five books. I am a Fellow of the Geological Society of America and a certified Program Management Professional.

Current efforts include addressing key barriers to adaptation and examining the possible impact of climate change upon efforts at humanitarian assistance and disaster relief.
