Itzel Morales Lagunes is a Biochemical Engineer graduated from the Instituto Tecnológico de Mérida with 9 years of experience in project management in different sectors of Mexican industry. Ms. Morales holds a master's degree in climate change from Heriot Watt University in Edinburgh, Scotland where she studied with funding from CONACYT.
In 2013, she was trained as a Climate Leader in the Climate Reality Leadership Corps in Chicago, receiving training from former Vice President of the United States and founder of the Climate Reality Project, Al Gore. She is currently a mentor to new climate leaders. Ms. Morales has participated in training sessions in Rio de Janeiro, New Delhi, Miami and Denver. As a climate leader one of her achievements has been the delivery of 40 conferences about sustainable development, climate change, leadership, empowerment and conflict resolution to around 4500 people in Mexico and the United States. In 2014, due to her work for the community, the Government of the State of Campeche awarded her the Youth Award in the category of Environmental Protection.
Ms. Morales is currently a Hubert H. Humphrey Fellow at UC Davis for the 2016-2017 academic year which is funded by the US Department of State. During her fellowship year she had a professional affiliation with the United States Forest Service and the International Center for the Environment at UC Davis for the organization and delivery of the International Seminar on Climate Change and Natural Resource Management.
She is currently a member of the Isla Verde Environmental Group and Co-founder of Arbológico. Together with Ing. Karla González Villanueva, were with an innovative business model, promote sustainability and continue their commitment as climate leaders to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and enhance the intelligent use of resources.
