The ‘Society for Environmental Conservation (SEC)’ is a legally constituted Liberian civil society organization with registration number MPA/NGO/AC/: 0187.  The organization was established in 2006 and registered on December 8, 2008 in Monrovia.  SEC’s mission is to promote and protect ecologically-sustainable, environmental justice in a participatory development that result in equality and equal opportunities with strong sense of ownerships for all. SEC currently works across four sectors including 1) Forestry and Natural Resources Management 2) Sustainable Livelihood/Agriculture/Energy 3) Environmental Justice 4) Biodiversity Conservation.The aim of its Forestry and Biodiversity Conservation program is to promote sustainable and equitable management of Liberia’s remaining tropical rainforest while empowering local communities in biodiversity rich areas to sustainably care and equitable distribution of available natural resources for the long-term benefit. SEC has Six (6) permanent staffs with four (4) professionals dedicated to its natural Resource management, biodiversity conservation, Livelihoods and environmental justice programs. It has an established financial management practices and its account is audited annually by external auditing firms. SEC has a standard operating procedure (SOP) that governs its financial management; additionally, the organization trained financial officers who guide the uses of the institution’s fund.
