Chip Pitts is a Lecturer at Stanford Law School, Professorial Lecturer at Oxford University, and teaches as a Professor or Visiting Professor at other universities in Asia as well (including CEIBS in Shanghai). Formerly a partner at Baker & McKenzie global law firm, Chief Legal Officer of Nokia, Inc., and professor at SMU Law School, he has also helped found two successful technology startups involving artificial intelligence, and been elected as Chair of a number of non-profit organizations operating at the intersection of human rights, the environment, and development, ranging from Fairtrade International to Amnesty International USA. He currently serves as Chair of the Electronic Privacy Information Center (EPIC), on the Executive Committee of OICD, and the boards or advisory boards of Imagine Africa, the Business & Human Rights Resource Center, The Negotiation Center, and the ABA Center for Human Rights Business & Human Rights Project, among others. He is Advisor to the UN Global Compact, leader of its Good Practice Notes project since inception, and frequent delegate to UN and world conferences on Sustainability, Climate Change, and Human Rights. He is currently an Independent Expert to the UN Human Rights Council's Open-Ended Intergovernmental Working Group on a Binding Instrument in the Field of Business and Human Rights.
