Judge 1:

This proposal addresses many issues in one simple idea. It addresses human behavior, economics, lifestyles, collective and political will, technology etc. by using one day during the week as a ‘test-bed’ for living sustainably. Often project ideas are about a technology or a strategy and often those ideas need to be coupled with many other elements to provide a model for a sustainable future. This idea does it all in one day. My recommendation for moving forward would be to suggest the authors think about and offer mechanisms by which this could be accomplished at scale. Who would be willing to join in? How could the number of people joining be increased massively?

Judge 2:

Once I got past the fact that Green Sabbath was not a 60's rock band, the proposal was clear. This is much like Earth Day (which, by the way, was started by an MIT classmate of mine). You might want to look at the history of Earth Day to see if any lasting climate improvements were initiated as a result.

Earth Day is once a year - that may be too little, but once a week may not be sustainable in our busy lives. I would suggest that you think about proposing the 1st day of each month or some such scheme until this becomes ingrained in our value system. If you lose your audience early by asking too much of them, they will never return.

Green Sabbath does not bother me as a title but it may offend some ultra-religious people. Be prepared for a backlash and if you get it, either change the name of write off those people as supporters.

Who will your leaders be? This may be aimed at being a grassroots organization but it takes worlds of work and organization to make something look easy so make sure you have sufficient people resources early to publicize this.

Dear Judges,

Thank you for your words of encouragement on the Green Sabbath proposal, though the signals were a bit confusing.

Judge 1: You fully did get the idea! Yet, a closer LOOK at the reference I made to Paul McCartney's highly successful organization (http://www.meatfreemondays.com) and movement that there will be no need to reinvent the wheel. The beauty of it is that Green Sabbath can simply follow that model. Green Sabbath proposes a perfect and efficient mix of a highly successful model and wisdom of an ancient practice to achieve multi (personal and climate health) benefit at zero cost.

Judge 2: with all due respect, if you are referring to 60's rock bank Black Sabbath (not Green Sabbath), they're still touring in 2016! Secondly, there is no comparison to once-a-year earth day. Green Sabbath proposes a much deeper and profound fundamental change in awareness, attitudes and ultimately IMPACT to climate change (15%+ at zero cost). It is our value system that has brought us to the current climate situation. Surely there is room for change and improvement in our consumption behavior. Thirdly, Your suggestion of "once a month..." will not make the time sensitive impact that we urgently need. Lastly, we look to borrow from the successful model of Paul McCartney's Meat Free Mondays organization (http://www.meatfreemondays.com). They achieved their success without relying on a particular "leader" and fear of any "religious groups."

Cheers,

Siamak
