Pitch

Increasing the Earth's cloud cover and the planet's albedo in the equatorial zone to counteract global warming, regardless of the cause.

Description

Summary

An original project on global warming counteraction by means of increasing the Earth’s cloud cover by virtue of generation of the atmospheric vortices in the equatorial zone of the World Ocean, as well as the suppression of these vortices by Coriolis forces when they leave this zone (to prevent them from developing into storms and hurricanes). It is proposed to generate the vortices by virtue of the ocean’s energy warmed up by the Sun, thus liberating the heat of steam condensation evaporated from the ocean. The project is also aimed at the diminution of the hazard of generation and development of powerful hurricanes in the tropical latitudes by providing a decrease in temperature of the ocean’s surface and the adjacent air masses and a decrease in their humidity. The project doesn’t require limitation of hydrocarbons’ burning and it is not associated with the necessity to carry out unnatural changes in the chemical composition of the atmosphere and the ocean.

Category of the action

Geoengineering

What actions do you propose?

To achieve Sustainable Development Goal 13 “Take urgent action to combat climate change ...”
I propose to manufacture and test the following simple device under appropriate conditions.
Attach a vertical cylindrical tube to a drone (quadrocopter) from light heat-conducting material, for example, from which cans for juice or beer are made. The height of the pipe to ensure traction should be 3 to 5 of its diameters or more. On the outside and inside, paint the pipe in matt black for the best absorption of solar energy. On the axis of the pipe, provide for the installation of a rotator at the upper end of which to fix the blades for twisting the upward airflow in the desired direction. Alternatively, you can fix the auger of the desired direction in the upper part of the pipe. The desired direction for the northern hemisphere is clockwise, for the southern - against, when viewed from above.
The work of such a device is as follows:
The drone raises this device to a height where clouds naturally form. For the equatorial zone, it is about 700 meters. The sun's rays heat the black pipe, which heats the air in and around it. According to the law of Archimedes, hotter air rushes up and enters the condensation zone of the water vapor contained in it. During condensation, the heat of vaporization contained in the water vapor is released. This heat will warm the ascending air pillar and the surrounding air. The process will be self-propelling due to this heat. A drone with a device can be removed from the zone of origin of the atmospheric vortex when the first signs of cloud formation appear.
If the direction of rotation is chosen correctly (see above), then when moving away from the equator to higher latitudes, the atmospheric vortex will be extinguished (collapse) by the increasing Coriolis forces, not developing into a storm or a hurricane. And near the equator, the Coriolis forces are close to zero and will not affect the choice of the direction of rotation.

Who will take these actions?

UN - for the approval of zones of the oceans, where the initiation of atmospheric vortices can be carried out.

MIT + company producing drones.

NASA - to coordinate the timing of the experiment, convenient for observing the results from space.

Coordination with the Government of Costa Rica (geographic latitude suitable) to help organize an experiment near its territory.

Where will these actions be taken?

Geographic latitude suitable water area

What are other key benefits?

In the case of a successful experiment, mankind will be able to reduce the amount of solar energy reaching the planet’s surface, reflecting it into the space with artificially formed clouds. The clouds will be formed due to solar energy, enclosed in the heat of vaporization. A global temperature control system will be created.
