SUBJECT: Your proposal has been selected as a Finalist!

Congratulations! Your proposal, "Establish Local Energy Interaction Strategies (LEIS) as driver to GHG reductions" in the Energy solutions for Latin America contest, has been selected to advance to the Finalists round.

Be proud of your accomplishment – more than 350 proposals were submitted and only a very small number have been advanced through these two rounds of judging.

As a Finalist, your proposal is eligible for the contest’s Judges Choice award, as well as the contest’s Popular Choice award, which is determined by public voting.

If you haven’t already, you will soon receive an email from the Climate CoLab staff with details about the voting period. If you don’t receive that email within the next day, or have other questions, please contact the Climate CoLab staff at admin@climatecolab.org

All winners will be announced the week after the voting period ends, on September 12, 2015 at midnight Eastern Time.

Both Judges Choice and Popular Choice will receive a special invitation to attend selected sessions at MIT’s SOLVE conference and present their proposals before key constituents in a workshop the next day, where a $10,000 Grand Prize will be awarded. A few select Climate CoLab winners will join distinguished SOLVE attendees in a highly collaborative problem-solving session. Some contests have additional prizes given by the contest sponsor.

Thank you for your work on this very important issue. We’re proud of your proposal, and we hope that you are too. Again, congratulations!

SUBJECT: Your proposal has been selected as a Semi-Finalist!

Congratulations! Your proposal, "Establish Local Energy Interaction Strategies (LEIS) as driver to GHG reductions" in the "Energy solutions for Latin America " contest, has been selected to advance to the Semi-Finalists round.

You will be able to revise your proposal and add new collaborators if you wish, from July 1st until July 14, 2015 at 23:59pm Eastern Time.

Judges' feedback are posted under the "Evaluation" tab of your proposal. Please incorporate this feedback in your revisions, or your proposal may not be advanced to the Finalists round. We ask you to also summarize the changes that you made in the comment section of the Evaluation tab.

Finalists are eligible for the contest’s Judges Choice award, as well as for public voting to select the contest’s Popular Choice award.

Thank you for your great work and again, congratulations!

2015 Climate CoLab Judges

Interesting approach of local planning through Local Energy Managers. Perhaps the timeline is too short to take into account all the complexities that such a paradigm change would entail. I think the economics of the proposal is very difficult and when/if the investments in transformation will be recovered. Is is not very clear how very big industries with national or international scope will fit in LEIS.

First of all, I want to thank the judges for appreciate this project for the next stage. Now, I do believe this project correct the basis of developing a global strategy to GHG reduction, and thanks to your advices and a better self understanding, I realize the lack of a round project, now probably we have a better solution for LATAM energy development. 1.-According to the timeline and considering this is something new in LATAM, and current chilean government is trying a local strategy prototype, in a year we will be able to identify if this numbers are close or far from reality. By now, and according to my estimation, it is quite probable to do it. Basically, we need to add a short stage for a massive trainning and then implement the strategy. Actually, the timeline is considering one municipality and then is scalable or replicable to others. But, LIES do not consider the total implementation of projects that were proposed. It considers the local assesment and understanding of it. If you check the timeline and consider first a regional (a region with more than a couple of municipalities) definition, and then start to implementing LIES, it is quite probable to achieve goals in the timeline proposed. 2.-Economic approach was the very most important correction. After many attempts of defining a good strategy, I decided that implementing a Regional Energy Platform (another project developed by G4) that is feeded by the LIES, it is the key for success in short and long terms. Moreover, the platform is absolutelly replicable at any level or any country in latinamerica. It has been added an sketch of how will look the platform implemented in Chile, Argentina and Brasil. How the LIES feed the platform was added as well. Basically, after the timeline of the LIES, the local energy manager is able to upload and constantly update the information of their communities. The platform receives the information and it creates a public site to show investors what are the Energy potencial and money benefits of their communities. According to this system, each project that wants to be installed, it will be better accepted by the population if fit to the profile created by LIES. For instance, if and X municipality built a perfect LIES, they should defined what were the energy potencial (maybe sun and not hydro) and what is the require investment. The same with the energy efficiency required and the citizen definition of local vision. This implies a list of local needs that can be afforded by private investors in order to match a win-win development under a sustainable criteria. 3.-Indutries that are already installed, it will be part of an educated area (conformed by citizens and municipalities). Local requirements and standards will be applied. The Ministry of Energy will have a better control of local development, trusting in the chain of local energy managers and regional energy managers as well. Therefore, creterias, projects and new requirement according to current national laws will be easily monitored. 4.-Each project such a PV, wind, geotherm and biogas will be easily accepted if the municipality defined a LIES before the investor proposed the project. 5.-It was also added, that cities and towns that already implemented a local strategy will reach a 40% of GHG reduction. It was also mentioned that same towns and cities have receive double number of proposal after creating the strategy. The platform is a completely unique tool. The novelty of this project, it is that fit with latinamerica reality, and also it is a total replicable solution.
