Geoengineering 2014
After much consideration, the Judges have decided that the submitted proposals did not address the contest prompt sufficiently enough to warrant awarding Finalists or Winners. There will be no voting period. However, the entries did present interesting ideas, and so a number of proposals have been selected to re-open and edit their proposals during the revision period to continue to refine their work with the Judges’ feedback, as well as vie for an Honorable Mention award. The recipient will be invited to showcase their work at the Climate CoLab conference.
Assuming geoengineering research is going to be pursued, how can it be governed or regulated to limit its environmental and political risks, and to contribute to effective overall management of climate change and its impacts? Lack of effective political action on climate change has led some scientists, chemists and engineers to investigate technical and technological options to counter the effects of increasing greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. These strategies are collectively known as geoengineering or geoengineering methods, and could result in far-reaching global and regional impacts. This contest seeks proposals on how to progress research on geoengineering in an ethically and environmentally responsible manner. Click here for contest details
