2014 Contest Suggestions Resources
This year we are reaching out to you -- citizens from around the world -- to submit your idea on what challenges need to be addressed. As in previous years, the contests will be based on the Climate CoLab's What, Where, Who Taxonomy: a structured framework that breaks climate change into sub-challenges.
Process
1. Add your ideas on important or promising areas to seek climate solutions in this 'contest for contests'.
2. Climate CoLab staff will review submissions on an ongoing basis and will launch contests that have potential to make significant impact and are likely to generate interest. Successful contests will pose a well-defined question and have a dedicated and knowledgeable team serving as Advisors and Judges.
Contest Components
We encourage you to work with other Climate CoLab community members to develop your contest idea, recruit collaborators, and identify key information sources to help acquaint prospective entrants with the key issues.
Please complete for as many sections of the contest suggestion template as possible:
- Title: Give your contest a title. It's the first thing most people will see, so you'll want to make it descriptive and engaging.
- Image: Choose an image that symbolizes your contest challenge.
- Question: Include a tweet-length message that conveys the key question to be answered through your contest.
- A place in the What, Where, Who taxonomy You can select the appropriate items from the taxonomy using the drop-down menu.
- Why is this contest important? Describe the specific problem this contest seeks to address and why launching it will make a difference.
- Suggested Advisors, Judges, and Fellows: Please suggest people who can oversee the contest. This can include people you know or outside experts you respect. Contest Advisors have deep knowledge in the field and help to shape the contest prompt, provide expert feedback to authors, serve as Judges and recruit peers to serve as Judges (more on the role of Advisors). Contest Judges are subject matter experts who work with the Advisor to provide feedback on and select promising contest proposals. Fellows organize contest activity and logistics (more on the role of Fellows).
- References, Resources, Inspiration and/or Education Materials: Provide links to information related to this climate change topic that would benefit proposal authors.
- Contest-Specific Prizes: Include any prizes that would or could be provided to contest winners. This could be monetary, in-kind, or a specific opportunity that would help their idea be implemented. It's also helpful if you can provide ideas on how you or the CoLab team could obtain these prizes!
