This plan assumes the continuation of current practices, which result in rapid growth of greenhouse gas emissions throughout the 21st century due to reliance on a fossil fuel based global energy system.
Global emissions trajectories are based on the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) A1FI scenario, which posits rapid future global economic growth and a fossil fuel intensive energy system.
Regional emission allocations are based on the International Energy Agency's (IEA's) World Energy Outlook 2008.
