MBA from New York State University in the USA. Co-Founder of Kwem Resources, a startup that connects food Wasters to food Growers.
According to surveys (https://bit.ly/2u4Mi4i), we waste about 40% of prepared and raw food, which is about $900 Billion , and about $100 Billion worth in India alone due to various factors.
By applying the principle of "Polluter Pays" ,Majority of Municipal corporations in India now mandate segregation of food waste at the source, and to process the wet waste in situ instead of dumping it in a dumping yard.
For institutional and big generators of wet waste, this mandate has presented with an opportunity to turn their wet waste into organic manure to be used in the fields instead of using a a chemical fertilizer.
On the other hand, farms in India gobble up about 30 Million Tons of Urea, a chemical fertilizer, alone to increase the yield on their farms in order to feed ever growing population.
However the usage of chemical fertilizer leeches the soil nutrients at a faster rate, so in a vicious cycle of sorts, in order to grow the same produce, a farmer has to use more urea on his field.
Many farmers are looking for alternate to chemical fertilizers, and steadily, the demand for organic manure is increasing.
My Startup is an attempt to bridge the gap between the big producers of manure with those consumers who are producing cash crops, so as to have a Win Win situation for all the stakeholders.
This is in line with UNEP Environmental, Social and Economic Sustainability (ESES) framework for Resource Efficiency, Pollution prevention and Management of Waste (MSW).
