Dave has more than 20 years of experience in nonprofit / mission-driven organizations, largely focused on partnerships in Latin America that link biodiversity conservation goals with sustainable livelihoods and empowerment strategies. He has worked as a classroom teacher and outdoor educator as well as a grant writer, project designer, intern manager/mentor, coach, and strategist. Dave is absolutely passionate about organizational excellence and the power of diverse, versatile teams - and he loves to write and experiment with playful language and ideas. His dedication to sustainable development, teamwork, and creativity stems from early experiences studying abroad for a semester in Mexico and teaching for four years in Cali, Colombia in the late 90's, where he became fluent in Spanish. Dave bore witness to an intense mix of vibrant culture and happy family life on the one hand, and grinding poverty, heart wrenching conflict, and corruption on the other. This led him to pursue a master's degree at Harvard's Kennedy School, where he focused on natural resource management policy and social entrepreneurship and was awarded a Switzer Environmental Fellowship. In addition to his work at ReImagine Impact International (Ri3), he serves as the coordinator for the Conservation Coaches Network Mesoamerica Franchise, co-leads the Austin TX Network of International Impact Professionals, and is busy dishing out advice about working in Colombia and cooking up tours for travelers to experience that country as authentically and adventurously as possible. He resides in Austin TX with his wife, two children, and two dogs.
