Chifungu's companies include BITKwacha, a blockchain company started in a rural village; a transactive smart grid developer owner and operator (Utilicom Energy Solutions) and a fully distributed person-to-person waste recycling platform (Recyclebot). He is passionate about technology and how it could improve people’s lives in the developing world, especially in Africa. Chifungu taught himself and started writing computer programs at the age of 14, then later started teaching other young people how to code.
As a developer, Chifungu frequently travels to rural and peri-urban communities in Zambia conducting interviews with customers and stakeholders for customer and product development purposes. This enables him to identify with and analyze the challenges of sustainable development in the grassroots communities.
