Dr. Mushtaq Memon is the Regional Coordinator, Resource Efficiency at UN Environment, Asia Pacific Office.

Previously he was a Programme Officer at International Environmental Technology Centre of Division of Technology, Industry and Economics. His expert area is waste management including integrated solid waste management for cities, waste and climate change, disaster waste management, e-waste management, eco towns, and public-private partnerships.

He has implemented projects on Integrated Solid Waste Management in India, Lesotho, Peoples Republic of China, Sri Lanka, Kenya, Brazil, Ethiopia, Viet Nam, Thailand, Cambodia, and Honduras. In the process, ISWM Guidance Manual has been developed to assist policy makers and experts to develop ISWM Plans for their respective cities. He has also implemented projects on waste agricultural biomass, E-waste and waste plastics with a focus on converting waste into a resource.

He has also assisted to develop Sustainability Assessment of Technologies (SAT) methodology to select environmentally sound technologies. He is currently in charge of the project to support national and local governments in developping national and city level waste management strategies.

Prior joining UNEP, he was working as Senior Policy Researcher at Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES) in Japan, Director at World Bank funded Sindh Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Project in Pakistan and Civil Engineer at Karachi Port Trust and Port Qasim Authority in Pakistan.

He obtained Bachelors of Civil Engineering and Postgraduate Diploma of Transport in Pakistan. Thereafter, he got his Masters in Project Management and National Development from University of Bradford in UK, and Doctorate in Environmental and Resource Economics and Management at Hiroshima University in Japan.
