Member Profile
I am working since the past one year as a volunteer with hill farmers in Manipur state of North East India to improve their agricultural practices and livelihoods. Hill farmers of the North East region are subsistence farmers who are dependent on shifting cultivation for their livelihoods. While shifting cultivation has been practiced for many generations in a sustainable way, this method of agriculture has been facing many challenges in recent decades and there is urgent need to develop alternatives which are suitable for the farmers and friendly for the environment as well.
I have a Master's degree in Agriculture and from 1985 to date have worked with NGOs and farming communities on sustainable livelihoods with focus on Natural Resource Management.
