Member Profile
I received my Degree in Physics from the University of Milan, Italy, and my Ph.D. in Electronic Engineering and Computer Science from the University of Pavia, Italy.
After working until 2001 at the National Research Council - Institute of Advanced Biomedical Technologies, I am currently Senior Research Fellow and Professor of Information Theory and of Signals and Image Processing at the Department of Computer Science, University of Milan. My research interests are concerned with Artificial Intelligence applied to the biomedical field and with advanced computational methods applied to biophysics and molecular biology.
A detailed presentation of my research activities can be found in my personal website
I coordinate the Living Networks Lab group. The page
http://www.dti.unimi.it/pizzi/research.html
describes the main result of this group, i.e. the development of the first human electronic creature, based on human neural stem cells grown on Multielectrode arrays connected to a robotic actuator in cascade with a real-time Artificial Neural Network. The hybrid creature acts correctly in response of digital commands.
The group carries on different research lines in the field of:
- Nanobiotechnologies
- Bioelectronic interfaces
- Bioinformatics (Molecular Dynamics simulations with standard and ad hoc methods)
- Quantum Biophysics
- Non linear analysis of biomedical signals (statistics and ANN methods)
- IT technologies for disabled people
I am author of around 100 international scientific publications, visible at the page
