Sandy Manners is an award-winning communications professional with more than 25 years of experience in the energy and utilities sector gained working for Guelph Hydro Electric Systems Inc., Envida Community Energy, Horizon Utilities, Siemens Power Generation and Westinghouse Canada.

Currently the Director of Corporate Communications for Guelph Hydro Electric Systems Inc., she is responsible for all aspects of internal and external communications including media relations, social media, issues and crisis communications and annual report / sustainability report writing.

Sandy represents Ontario’s electricity distribution sector on the Electrical Safety Authority’s Consumer Advisory Council; serves on the Ontario Green Button Working Group and the Ontario Power Providers Working Group on Electric Mobility; is a member of Our Energy Guelph Taskforce, which is evaluating the City of Guelph’s progress on its Community Energy Plan; and is a reviewer for funding applications (energy) with the Ontario Centres of Excellence.

Sandy is a former chair of the Communications Council of the Electricity Distributors Association and served as a delegate attending the University of Berlin’s Transatlantic Urban Climate Dialogue sessions in Germany and the U.S. in 2012-2013. She is also an experienced board member with board training from The Directors College and the Canadian Board Diversity Council.

Sandy has taught Issues and Crisis Communications Planning at McMaster University, wrote the coffee table book entitled Westinghouse/Siemens Westinghouse – 100 Years in Canada, and has written several award-winning sustainability reports benchmarking company performance against the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI).

Sandy has a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Waterloo, a certificate in Corporate Social Responsibility from the University of Toronto and is a Fellow of the Canadian Public Relations Society.
