Georgina Echániz Pellicer (SM ´03) is an environmental lawyer and holds a Master of Science degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). She was legal and environmental advisor for the Center for Environmental Law DASSUR, where she participated in the development of the Veracruz State Law on Environmental Protection. Georgina collaborated as research assistant with the Future of Learning group at the MIT/Media Lab, promoting Constructionism as education methodology for sustainable development and doing research on technological applications for air quality education: “Learning Material for Constructing Environmental Understanding”. She worked for the local government as head of the Technical Secretariat of the Veracruz’ State Council for Environmental Protection and for the federal government as deputy director of strategic studies on air quality at the National Institute of Ecology (today INECC), the research branch of the Ministry of Environment. Georgina has published peer reviewed articles, such as “Educational Changes for Sustainable Cities” and “Children: engineers of tomorrow engineering the world today”. Also, she participated in the publication of technical documents such as Guidelines for emissions estimation from different sources, Almanacs of air quality data and trends, and Guidelines for evaluating health impacts of air quality control measures. Today, Georgina is director of the Center for Environmental Law and Education (CeDEAmb) and has been external consultant for organization like Instituto de Ecología A.C. (INECOL), Schlumberger Excellence in Educational Development (SEED), Greenpeace México, Banco Nacional de México (BANAMEX), Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) and Secretaría de Medio Ambiente y Recursos Naturales (SEMARNAT), among others.
