Mark Roberts is a Professor of Mathematics at the University of Surrey in the UK and Rector of the Tanzanian centre of the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS), a pan-African network of centres of excellence for postgraduate training, research and public engagement in the mathematical sciences and their applications. AIMS Tanzania recently moved to Bagamoyo where it will be renovating and developing a historical site in the centre of the town into an innovative, sustainable, world-class training and research campus which links Bagamoyo’s natural and cultural heritage with its scientific, technological and entrepreneurial future.
