I have always been on the side of 'green' energy causes and followed the various renewable technologies in establishing a foothold in their respective fields. My outlook on nuclear was to be dismissive of the technology due to its well publicised issues - especially on what to do with the waste for quite a few millennia. To let you understand my knowledge of the relationship between half-life and radioactivity turned out to be the polar opposite to what it actually is (I'm sure I'm not alone in this). It is therefore with some trepidation - and a bit of a surprise - to find my interest in this alternative nuclear energy technology resulting in my first short book, Thorium MSR: 21st Century Energy & Climate Solution; 20th Century Paradox. I hope it opens peoples minds to other possibilities for energy through nuclear, as I've been made aware over the last year, is not a single technology ... but multiples. What initially engaged my interest was stumbling on to a video blog (Kirk Sorensen/Gordon McDowell) that indicated there had already been a step change in nuclear technology involving fluids rather than solid fuels - one that seemingly has many added benefits over the current technology - but seems to have been consigned to the dustbin for the last 40 years or so. It is with this alternative nuclear technology that it becomes a game changer with very real possibilities regarding the 'green' aspects of nuclear to become so much stronger in their effectiveness over any other technology that I felt it could make all the difference with climate change. My aspiration is that the book will stimulate the debate for funding in this direction as the wider implications for the planet would be trans-formative.
