I have worked for IBM since my graduation in 1971.
Lately, I have made it a point to engage acquaintances in discussions on anthropocentric global warming (AGW).
I am astonished at the number of people who honestly and earnestly believe that global warming is a myth, largely due to books such as Climate Change: The Facts (edited by Alan Moran), a bible for global warming skeptics.
I have embarked on an effort to debunk the claims in the book, the most outrageous of which is "that global warming has ceased over the past seventeen years" (see page 73 of the paperback edition).
(BTW, I refused to buy the book and instead borrowed a copy from my local library.)
I have also been recommending the book Plows, Plagues, and Petroleum by William Ruddiman. I have been looking for a good book explaining glacial cycles and their history, but haven't found one yet.
