Sisira Saddhamangala Withanachchi is a junior scientist in the Department of Organic Food Quality and Food Culture in the University of Kassel, Germany. Currently, he is pursuing his doctoral studies under the supervision of  Prof. Dr. Angelika Ploeger on the theme entitled “Integrated Water Resources Management for Sustainable Food System: A study about the water-food security-climate-society-nexus”.

Withanachchi graduated with a first class honorable degree in political science and public policy in the University of Colombo, Sri Lanka in 2008. He was awarded the Canekerathne Gold Medal. Furthermore, he was awarded Dr. Chanaka Amaratunga Memorial Gold Medal and Professor Leitan Award Gold Medal. In 2012, he completed his master degree in Global Political Economy with focusing in water resource management in the University of Kassel, Germany. His master thesis research was "An Analysis of Politics of Scale in Water Governance and Management in Mongolia”.

Sisira S. Withanachchi is consulting to the United Nations World Water Development Report from 2012 and as a managing editor the “Future of Food: Journal on Food, Agriculture and Society”. Mr. Withanachchi is a guest editor in the special issue "Climate Change on Crops, Foods and Diets" of the Climate Journal Vol.1 2016. Moverover, he is an expert reviewer of the Intergovernmental Panels on Climate Change (IPCC) (AR 5) Report on Climate Change 2014: Mitigation of Climate Change. He engaged as a researcher in the multidisciplinary research project “Environmental Flow Assessment in Orkhon River in Mongolia” of National University of Mongolia. He has worked as an assistant lecturer in the University of Colombo and a junior researcher in the Social Scientists’ Association in Sri Lanka. His research interests are water resource management and organic food system.
