R Harikumar, Head of Education & Training Division of Energy Management Centre, Government of Kerala is a Graduate in Mechanical Engineering; Post Graduate in Energy Conservation and holds a Ph.D in Energy Management. He has more than 22 years of experience in the fields of energy efficiency and renewable energy. Trained at National Productivity Council during 1992, he worked for a national energy consultancy organization in North India. Harikumar had a brief
stint in a chemical processing industry and then worked for more than 2 years in the first ESCO (Energy Services Company) in Asia, at Bangalore, before joining the Energy Management Centre (EMC), Kerala in 1997. EMC is the designated agency in the Kerala State for implementation of the Energy Conservation Act 2001. He leads the EMC’s flagship programs such as the “Energy Clinic,” targeting women; “Energy Clubs” targeting students and the “Kerala State Energy Conservation Awards,” in addition to organising capacity-building programs for different stakeholders. From Sept 2006-Sept 2009, he was on deputation to the Kerala Government Agency for Non-conventional Energy and Rural Technology as its Project Director, leading its district operations in the areas of biogas, biomass gasifier, solar
PV/thermal, and improved cooking stoves. A Certified Energy Auditor of the Bureau of Energy Efficiency, he is the Honorary Founder General Secretary of the Society of Energy Engineers and Managers, the professional body of
Certified Energy Managers and Auditors in the country. Harikumar has travelled widely within the country for energy efficiency capacity-building programs as a faculty member of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization. On various energy-related missions, he has also travelled abroad to Bangladesh, France, Japan, Malaysia, Maldives, Netherlands, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Taiwan,
Thailand and the United States.
