Founded on Earth Day in 2015, ProjectARCC is a task force of archivists striving to motivate the archival community to affect climate change. We believe that archivists, the preservers of history for future generations, should be as passionate and concerned about preserving a habitable and safe planet for future generations. Our mission is four-fold:

1. Protect archival collections from the impact of climate change
2. Reduce our professional carbon and ecological footprint
3. Elevate environmental related archival collections to improve public awareness and understanding of climate change
4. Preserve this epochal moment in history for future research and understanding

We want to collaborate with activists' and scientists' campaigns and projects focused on climate change, archival institutions preserving climate-related collections, and other national and international archives associations and projects seeking to address the impact of climate change on the archival profession. 

If you are a climate scientist or climate activist, and you are creating records (research data, your blog, materials from your campaigns, etc.) which are not currently being preserved in an archive, contact us! We’d love to share ideas and recommendations on potential repositories, practices for managing your records until they are submitted to an archive, and generally how to ensure that your materials are preserved for future generations. We'd also love to discuss ways in which we as archivists can help you achieve your campaign's goals.
