Prof.James B. Kungu  is a Professor of Forestry and Climate Change in the Department of Environmental Sciences, School of Environmental Studies, Kenyatta University, Kenya. He holds a BSc. (Forestry) from Moi University, Kenya, Msc.(Forestry)  and PhD  (Forestry) from the University of the Philippines at Los Baňos. He is the Dean, School of Environemntal Studies, Kenyatta University and the Chairman, Africa Network for Agriculture, Agroforestry and Natural Resources Education  for East and Central Africa (ANAFE-ECARAFT). He has wide experience in capacity building, research and community outreach. For the last 26 years, he has been involved in capacity building at technical, undergraduate, post graduate and community level. He has supervised research thesis for many PhDs, Masters and Undergraduate Students.

He has been carrying out collaborative research and community outreach with government Ministries, NGOs and National and International research organizations.  He has been  an  External Examiner for many Universities in Africa i.e Copper Belt University in Zambia, Bunda Collage of Agriculture in Malawi, South Eastern Kenya University Kenya, Moi University Kenya, University of Eldoret Kenya Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture Science and Technology and University of Kabianga.

Before moving to Kenyatta University, Prof. Kungu had worked for nine years with the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, Forestry Department, where he was involved in Rural Re-forestation programme and Training of foresters at Kenya Forestry College,
