Member Profile
When building or developing communities towards disaster resilience and climate change adaptation there is need to take into account the indigenous knowledge which has over time played an important role in shaping their existence especially in their quest for a secured food.it might not be possible to make these indigenous crops replace the conventional ones but we could increase their use to go beyond the rural community which they are found. There is a possibility to make these communities self-dependent. Developing home gardens for these plants will play an important role in securing food and income as well as having important cultural significance for the rural poor. Maximizing the potentials of these crops in rural communities via home gardens can be sustained when approaches that combine indigenous knowledge with modern based science and technology are in place.
