Tiziano Cattaneo, PhD, Architect, is National Chair Professor of “1000 Talent Plan” in Shanghai at the College of Design and Innovation of Tongji University for the years 2017-2020. Assistant Professor in Architectural design at University of Pavia in Italy since 2007, he was Visiting Scholar at Department of Urban Studies and Planning MIT in 2016/2017 working with Professor Emeritus Tunney Lee. Graduated at the Faculty of Architecture of the Polytechnic of Milan in 1998, he carried out his PhD in the year 2004 and obtained Post – doc research grant for the years 2005 and 2006 on the topics Architectural and Urban Design at the University of Pavia. Founder director of the China Lab for architecture and urban studies, since 2012 he works in-between the Italian and Chinese context in both research and education as Visiting Professor at College of Architecture and Urban Planning of Tongji University, Shanghai, and he is also a founder member of the Association of Italian Scholars in China at the Italian General Consulate in Shanghai.
Starting from a philosophical and historical background, his research focuses on design as a process to create environments, contexts of participation and social engagement addressing contemporary conditions such as climate change, globalization, technology and urbanization.
Tiziano Cattaneo has been granted with several scientific awards. He was principal investigator of a national research project for the years 2011-2013 and recently is leading jointly organized International researches between EU, China and USA, on architectural design for climate change. He lectured in international universities and institution in Europe, Brazil, Chile, Russia, USA and China, and is author and co-author of numerous scientific publications.
