Allison is a trained biologist and veterinary technician with a passion for wildlife conservation, specifically conservation medicine; the intersect between wildlife, ecosystem and human health. Her interests span primatology, marine science, veterinary medicine, public health, human-wildilfe interactions, community-based conservation, sustainable development and ecotourism. Allison received her Bachelor’s degree in Biology and Environmental Studies from the University of California, Santa Cruz. She completed her Master’s in Primate Conservation at Oxford Brookes University in 2011. Working closely with the Uganda Wildlife Authority and Conservation Through Public Health her independent research project focused on disease transmission risks between humans and mountain gorillas of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, Uganda. In collaboration with EcoHealth Alliance and the Center for Infection and Immunity at Columbia University, she is furthering her MSc work. Saliva and feces from mountain gorillas, tourists, researchers and staff are currently being exported from Uganda to the laboratory in New York City to be screened for pathogens. Allison continues to work with many nonprofits and professionals across the globe while using conferences, publications, film and social media to share her experiences and knowledge. Between her formal education she has worked as a veterinary technician for over six years and lived in five continents. She is passionate about our world, exploring new places and cultures, meeting unique and extraordinary people, photography and would like to improve the health and livelihood of our planet through work as a conservationist and scientist.
