Han Heijnen is working as teamleader of the WASH Sector Efficiency Improvement Unit. SEIU is a unit in the sector lead agency: Ministry of Urban Development; which aims to promote better sector coordination and develop a sector development and investment plan based on SWAp. Nepal is transiting from new service investment to investment in managing functionality of existing water supply systems human resources, and is attempting to reduce the backlog in household sanitation where we still have to go another 40% before everybody will have access to sanitation. Human resource development, promotion and behavioural change communication for improved service delivery and utilization is a key challenge. Han has worked mainly in Asia and Africa in rural water supply and sanitation, general rural development, including promotion of smokeless cooking stoves. Ecological sanitation (incl. biogas) has been an area of focus since the early  part of this century.
