Dr. Sven A. Beiker is the Executive Director of CARS, the Center for Automotive Research at Stanford. CARS is an interdisciplinary partnership between academia and industry to address the challenges of personal mobility in the 21st century. Since 2008, Dr. Beiker has been taking care of the program’s strategic planning, resources management, and project incubation. He was instrumental in launching research programs at Stanford University in "Legal Aspects of Autonomous Driving", "Wireless Power Transfer to a Moving Vehicle", and “Vehicle Communication via Cellular Networks” as well as "The Revs Program at Stanford" and the "Volkswagen Automotive Innovation Lab".

Besides managing the industry relationships, he holds teaching positions at Stanford University's School of Engineering, the Stanford Graduate School of Business, and the Electrical Engineering Department of the Technische Universität Braunschweig (Germany) to educate students in interdisciplinary automotive topics and strategic thinking. For his research, Dr. Beiker conducts studies in consumer behavior and electric mobility at Stanford’s Precourt Energy Efficiency Center. He also serves as the Automotive / Mobility Advisor for the German American Chamber of Commerce in San Francisco and is a member of the Scientific Advisory Board for the Lecture Notes in Mobility of Springer Science+Business Media.

Before coming to Stanford, Dr. Beiker worked at the BMW Group for more than 13 years. Between 1995 and 2008 he pursued responsibilities in technology scouting, innovation management, systems design, and series development. He primarily applied his expertise to chassis and powertrain projects, which also gave him ample insight into the industry’s processes and best practices. During that time, he worked in three major automotive and technology locations: Germany, Silicon Valley, and Detroit.
