Gary’s background led him to electric vehicles through an appreciation of the environment from a multitude of outdoor activities and as an Electrical Engineering graduate from the University of Connecticut.  During 23 years at a Navy science lab developing heavyweight torpedoes, he received formal Systems Engineering training and left as a senior Systems Engineer.  He and his Software Engineer wife left New England to head south in search of warm weather and found San Antonio.   With a clean slate and a desire to start a clean energy business, a local showing of “Who Killed the Electric Car” provided the inspiration.  A lifetime of tinkering with all kinds of vehicles from bikes to planes, including building a composite kit plane and flying it from Rhode Island to Texas, provided the additional design and fabrication skills needed to realize his goal of electrifying our transportation system.

After a few months researching electric car parts and designs, he learned CAD and TIG welding and quickly designed and fabricated a proof of concept "battery box on wheels" electric car and drove it on the streets and highways of San Antonio for years, while starting an Electric Auto Association chapter and growing it to over 100 members.  Leading participation in dozens of events over the years, the displays and presentations included a wide variety of electric vehicles from electric bicycles and motorcycles to very fast high-end electric car conversions.

From 20 years of enthusiast and builder experience in the kit plane industry, and seeing the growing DIY and open source activity in software, robotics and more, the primary objective has been to promote open source electric vehicle kit design and local micro-manufacturing using automation and advanced materials.
