What's the point of people supporting a proposal, as opposed to voting?

So people can support your proposal, but that doesn't even count with the voting? What's the point of people supporting the project?

Hello, Thank you for your question! Supporting a proposal shows the author that you think that it is a good idea. It's a way to participate in the development of ideas without being directly involved. When it comes time for the voting period, we will email all supporters to let them know that they can now vote for the proposal. Thank you, Annalyn Bachmann Visiting Student with the Climate CoLab
