Long history of floodplain abuse here in Cambridge. The worst now with the removal of Cambridge's only floodplain forest at convergence of Arlington Belmont and Cambridge where a 7 acre functioning floodplain forest was clearcut by out of state developer for 300 unit building with much storm water run off into Cambridge wetlands planned. Building permit not yet granted. Could be a needed carbon sink and flood plain retention area. Needs more support from officials and MIT. Good place for students to do field studies. At present silver maple forest land is the best existing land we have for a carbon sink, flood mitigation area from Atlantic ocean as well as points north with draining waters from Belmont Hill. little River flows in both directions. Presently, Little River is the most impaired river in the 74 square miles of the Mystic River watershed. FAR Team Cambridge Ma. 12/10/14 617 415-1884 office
