Pitch

DAVE combines the best of the automobile with the best of rail in a package that is inexpensive and quick to install.

Description

Summary

We're in a mobility nightmare. Transit is expensive and doesn't work. Same with freeways and rail. Even ride-sharing and driverless cars won't help: in fact, many claim they will just make things worse. DAVE - short for "Dual-mode Advanced Vehicular Endeavor" - solves all with a unique hybrid design that runs both on existing roads and on rail in a manner similar to railway service vehicles.

DAVE is a Complete Ride that will take riders non-stop, door-to-door in a fraction of the time it would normally take.

DAVE will supplant all transit and make high-speed rail (as we know it) redundant.

Desirability

How do you know that your solution is desirable to SMEs, and will reduce GHG emissions?

End user: anyone that has to get themselves or light freight from somewhere to somewhere.

Users want mobility that is fast, safe, economical and private. DAVE is 'all of the above and more'.

The best part is that DAVE uses existing highway right of ways and can retro virtually any existing car or light truck.

Feasibility

What actions do you propose?

The first action is a proof of concept that will convert an existing auto to dual-mode with testing on an abandoned rail line.

Because DAVE adapts existing vehicles and will be dependent upon existing small businesses, it will have a major impact.

Who will take these actions?

To be determined.

Where will these actions be taken?

DAVE will be employed province-wide. The pilot could be easily undertaken within the designated time.

What are the proposal’s projected costs?

Cost $50,000

Challenges of implementing. New technology is always opposed by the technology it replaces. DAVE will certainly be opposed by transit advocates and employee unions.

Negative side-effects: none - other than unemployed transit personnel (to be offset by new employment)

Scalability

Once the solution is built and implemented describe a path forward for it to scale to other users/companies.

DAVE's technology is simple, cheap, easily copied and easily implemented. It will spawn hundreds of new enterprises.

How will your solution lead to change on a larger scale over time (i.e. 3 to 5 years out)? How many businesses can potentially be affected by your solution?

DAVE will supplant all exiting transit including future high-speed rail. Thousands of businesses will be impacted. In 5 years it will provide a high-speed link along Windsor - Quebec Corridor.

What business and funding model have you considered for your solution to become sustainable?

TBD

Impact

What impact will the proposed actions have on reducing greenhouse gas emissions?

Although DAVE is hybrid, the primary motive will be via electricity, the fossil element used for emergency backup.

What are other key benefits?

Environment: a major shirt to electric powered vehicles

Economy: mobility enhanced at every turn

Society: Everyone wins.
