Judges' comments are outlined below:

Judge 1: While this proposal may be an interesting option in the suggested setting, I am wondering about its scalabilty to areas with less isolation.

Judge 2: Interesting proposal. Small project, but still creates measurable impact and pathway towards implementation seems rather clear-cut. Furthermore, the technologies are well-identified. As such, I expect immediate benefits from the project.

Judge 3: A straight-forward proposal that does not claim to save the world but has measurable implications in a given setting - tourist recreational boating. I urge the authors to work on publicizing the findings in an approach similar to a manual/guideline for how to do these conversions and their training system for the boat owners as it could apply elsewhere in India and globally. Images and drawings would greatly help.

Judge 4: This is a good proposal. The project looks feasible, and is not overly ambitious, although I question whether 6 boats needs to be converted first off. There would be clear benefits of the idea to the are and to emissions.

The judges felt the proposal is a perfect small scale solution for tourist locations. The proposal could also involve locals in the conversion to solar boats

A few suggestions could help refine and improve the proposal:

- describe how the reduced speeds and power of solar boats vs. diesel boats (3hp vs. 10hp) will affect safety

- streamline proposal to stress key message and breakdown project costs while opining on funding sources

- identify more regions that this idea could be implemented

- consider adding more information on the system and design of solar boats, and discuss potential tests that would be needed to validate the concept

The following changes have been made as per the suggestion of the judges;

-describe how the reduced speeds and power of solar boats vs. diesel boats (3hp vs. 10hp) will affect safety: Government of India has not issued any definite speed limit norms for plying boats at tourist locations. Most tourist locations in Odisha normally have unorganized boat operators, which ply their boats grossly under-equipped with inadequate safety gears. Moreover the distance covered in the traditional boats is less than 8 square kilometres in the key tourist destinations which means the time and speed is not important rather the noise and air pollution is primary concern in the mentioned locations. The 3 HP solar boat will be capable of carrying the same load as the traditional boats though with less speed and power but this will make the journey more peaceful and enjoyable.

- streamline proposal to stress key message and breakdown project costs while opining on funding sources: Its not possible to put budget in tabular form. 

- identify more regions that this idea could be implemented: In Puri it can be replicated in another place called as Satapara. Besides this solar boats can be used in Dhenkanal, Bhubaneswar, Cuttack and many other places where there is such tourist places.

- consider adding more information on the system and design of solar boats, and discuss potential tests that would be needed to validate the concept: All measures will be taken to validate the safety, efficiency & durability of the solar boat. Ergonomic designing will be ensured before the concept is grounded in the field. The solar panel and the battery bank will be placed in such a way in the boat so that the balance and stability will be assured. The proposal has identified scope of collaboration with the leading technical university in Odisha (Centurial University of Technology and Management). The university has a state of the art laboratory and test the prototype.
