A monorail whose four-meter air bridge will allow to maximize the energy efficiency and the structural stability to minimize the costs.

Summary

The monorail with the bridge of 4 meters of height is a compact and versatile structural system, which has the comparative advantages with respect to the traditional system:

  • Torque experiencing the base of the airlift is smaller than the conventional system.
  • Better aerodynamic performance.
  • The pillars or columns of type I of the aerial bridge will be placed every 25 meters of distance.
  • The width of the rail is 1 meter.

The cross section in each wagon is (width 2.4 meters and height 1.9 meters) 4.56 m2 and a length of 8 meters. For the two articulated passenger cars, plus 2 meters in length for the driver's wagon. The design is intended for all passengers to be seated for comfort. This can be achieved because each train has about two articulated wagons, plus the total weight is not significant compared to conventional ones.

Each car of the monorail has a capacity to carry 16 seated passengers. Because of its versatility and size that reduces to ¼ part of a conventional monorail, it tends to be lighter. So it's mobility is more efficient to move from one point to another based and based on physical principles such as momentum, the moment of inertia, frictional forces, energy, and power.

To implement this type of actions, it is necessary to carry out governmental decisions using legal mechanisms through norms, laws and supreme decrees that regulate and promote this urban transport system.

In cities where it is required, especially in those where vehicular congestion exists and high rates of air pollution exceeding the environmental quality standards established by the OMS.

Impact/Benefits


What impact will these actions have on greenhouse gas emissions and/or adapting to climate change?

  • Change of energy matrix.
  • The decrease of greenhouse gases with a proposal to work in the multidisciplinary space to share and collaborate with other members involved with this proposal and thus get joint advice.
  • With the supply of renewable energy we can change the energy matrix: In small, medium, large cities we will be able to replace the fossil fuel and thus reduce the emission of GHG emissions.
  • With the national, regional and district government: We could promote the change of the energy matrix for the mass transportation of passengers.
  • Laws related to climate change, mass passenger transportation, and energy matrix change could begin to be debated in Congress.
  • When building public ecological structures: monorail is compatible with a healthy and ecological environment because both use renewable energy.

Costs/Challenges


What are the proposal’s projected costs?

Comparative costs are around 50% of the cost of a conventional monorail. That is, cost per mile (1.6Km), which would be approximately 7 million dollars.


Timeline

Four months for an extension of 20 km, this is possible because of the characteristics of the proposal, in five years a network could be built for a city.

Related Proposals

The proposed combination of actions consists first of sending the proposal to the GLOBAL PLAN (CLIMATE COLAB MIT), then giving the ideas to the US rulers to promote the laws and execution of the change of energy matrix (fossil fuel for renewable energy ) In the mass transit of passengers, this would contribute to reducing the gases of greenhouse effect. Finally, the system is friendly with the environment.
