So much so that you sometimes forget to prepare for your departure and all the necessary things they need to do before heading out!

Description

Summary

Going abroad is so exciting for everyone especially students. So much so that you sometimes forget to prepare for your departure and all the necessary things they need to do before heading out! Without proper planning, many students make several mistakes. In order to lessen the chances of mistakes, we have prepared a list of the top 5 mistakes not to commit before or during your university exchange.

Prepare yourself psychologically, administratively and financially!

The first thing to do is to learn as much as possible to know the country in which you are going. It is a  good idea to know and prepare yourself for the journey in advance so that you won’t have to face any kind of difficulty later. Even if a place attracts you, living there and being on vacation are two very different things. Once there, you cannot go back on your choice!

Be prepared not to be (too) shocked by cultural differences. Every country has a different culture, hence, when you go abroad, make sure that you celebrate their culture instead of comparing it with yours.

Be prepared not to be (too) shocked by cultural differences. Every country has a different culture, hence, when you go abroad, make sure that you celebrate their culture instead of comparing it with yours.

It is also important to prepare for the specific administrative requirements of the country in question. In particular, inquire for:

  • Visa and passport
  • Housing
  • Insurance and compulsory vaccinations

Some points may require months of preparation. The housing issue is sometimes crucial because it is difficult to find at a distance. The problems of scams related to finding apartments are very common so be careful and use trusted platforms. You can learn about your university's partnerships or use international housing platforms in partnership with many institutions around the world. By getting into an apartment with a group you would feel like home.

Practice

What actions do you propose?

Finally, it is essential to prepare a budget for your stay. Going abroad is a cost that you must estimate and anticipate. A poorly evaluated budget will be a source of additional stress, or even a major problem, which could jeopardize your project. In addition, it can help you organize yourself and make the necessary financial aid requests.

Suitcases!

To go abroad for study requires to prepare suitcases intelligently. Overload is the most common mistake students make, usually for fear of missing out. Choose in part what is comfortable to carry, and especially remember that on site, you will also enjoy yourself. If you are already having trouble carrying your bags on the way out, what will be the return? Unless you're traveling in a remote corner, you should find everything you need every day in your new city. Make sure you opt for a backpack preferably, which you can use also during your trips in your host country. Finally, do not forget to weigh your luggage before leaving to respect the weight limits of your airline.

Do not forget to work!

Always keep in mind that you are leaving as a student and not a tourist. Although your stay should be pleasant, allow a reasonable amount of time for your studies. But if you are not having a pleasant experience because of pending assignments, then make sure that you count on the writing services provided by Assignment Tigers instead of wondering “Who is going to write my assignment UK?” Balance social life and academic life. Promote your social life to the detriment of your schooling is a loss of money and will hurt your average. What's more, it's going to class that you will meet the world.

Explore the surroundings

Studying abroad is an opportunity to combine travel and work so take the opportunity to explore the surroundings. Try the local cuisine to discover the culture of your host country and, if you like to cook, try making the recipes yourself. It is by going out of your comfort zone that you will understand and live like a local.

Make friends

Do not limit yourself to hanging out with people from your country. While communication is easier, you will not be able to improve your English or other foreign languages, or open up to new things or experience a different way of thinking than you. Socialize and become familiar with people from other cultures. Take advantage of your foreign student status to make more local and international friends.

If you want to meet people outside your university, you can always try out mobile apps such as Meetup, Facebook groups, host communities of strangers or get involved in a sport or cultural activity.

Enjoy!

Hope these tips are helpful. With this blog post, you should avoid the worst! Remember that the more you prepare in advance, the better you will have to deal with on the spot. Good luck!
