Pitch

Like myspace for music or LinkedIn for work, I want a lifestyle social media platform for environmental activism and personal green living.

Description

Summary

Start a nonprofit social media platform that helps culture move towards connecting, embracing, talking about, and acting on environment.

There's a huge gap between what we need to be doing and what we are doing, from personal to government participation, and I think if people see other people move en masse then as social creatures we will adopt new lifestyles.

The site could potentially expand to other issues like war and health.

Having a social media link and social media account is an easy way for organizations and people to display and participate in values.

Is this proposal for a practice or a project?

Practice

What actions do you propose?

I want to start this nonprofit myself, though others are welcome to try to do this independently or with me.  Then I will shop around for friends and organizations who want to join, and or help me.  Advertising is possible, or possible not to.  Profits could go towards carbon offsets and reforestation.

Who will take these actions?

I want to start this, though anyone is welcome to make their own platform or join me in my efforts.

Where will these actions be taken?

I can start this from home if I know how to start coding one.  I can code and learn about social media coding and java.  I know only c, python and more backend type sites.

It would be nice to get mentorship from possibly my alma mater or mit heheh

In addition, specify the country or countries where these actions will be taken.

United States

Country 2

Indonesia

Country 3

Brazil

Country 4

No country selected

Country 5

No country selected

Impact/Benefits

What impact will these actions have on greenhouse gas emissions and/or adapting to climate change?

The possible change is enormous because people will get a chance to publish and share their individual actions and collect petitions and influence government.

It would be a medium size level of organization or clustering, between being for anyone and about anything, to being a government that only restricted elected officials are hired to participate in.

What are other key benefits?

Externalities include a way out of dependency to capitalism and job, by having something productive people can do that is free to join that adds to way of living.  It connects people and adds to social value and brings people together in values without being church. People can discuss and have positive discussions and interactions rather than some of the negative stuff that can go on on social media.

Costs/Challenges

What are the proposal’s projected costs?

Unknown.  Investment includes learning how to code a website and social media platform, which is just time investment for someone who is self employed already.

Sticking points include adoption and progression of website culture, which plays a big role in success.

Timeline

Impact can start immediately and locally, may easily get a lot of media coverage to promote adoption, and if successful can have long term effects for as long as the internet thrives.

It is a connection between our online and real lives.
