Sound like an interesting idea. For sure a comprehensive, systematic game plan.

One q, can you study (I assume done), collaborate and leverage on other similar, existing Consumer Products Apps, bringing in your specific domain expertise?

Hallo,

great idea, unfortunately for a small group of the population as far as India is concerned. Would be possible to have you view on the point. Of course, a contribution.

Best regards.

Sergio

Cool idea , Atanu.

You have a lot of big challenges to work through to see this product be successful. One of these first and most important challenges would seem to be getting access to information about products, and also having that information remain up to date. You could certainly find all of the information you reference for some products, and some of the information for many products, but I would be very surprised if you could find carbon data for many products. If not, you would need to gather and process this information yourself -- a task that would take a tremendous amount of time and effort -- or perhaps you could engage some sort of crowdsourcing method, but then you need to worry more about quality control of the data and timeliness of the data. You mention retail stores working with your app, but (as it's currently proposed) there doesn't seem to be much of an incentive for them to do so. If you could think of a way that your app could either increase sales, reduce costs, improve efficiency, save time, or something along those lines for retailers -- while also benefitting the end-user -- you might meet with greater success. More fundamentally, I think you're trying to do too much with your app here. You mention carbon impact of products, electric energy consumption, food nutrition, and more. These are all very different things, and each would require significant development effort on its own. At the same time, each of these features would probably appeal more strongly to one target user group than another. So, if you could pick just one feature set that your app should be able to do initially (and for one specific target user group), what would it be? If you can narrow that down, I think you'll be more likely to meet with success. You can then expand as you gain a user base, and begin to understand them more intimately.

Thanks for the detailed comments. There are few points and will discuss each below:

1) I have heard that in US and EU, there are detailed nutritional information available from third party/ manufacturers that can be used/ imported for a fee/ free. In India, we don't have those details in single place but some information printed on the product packaging, some are available with the food regulator, and some with manufacturers. We intend to engage a data entry team of 10 people for 3 months to digitize these content for 25,000 most used products. That way Tek! users will get good amount of data point to start with.

2) The incentive for retail store (and supply chain and manufacturers) is to use advertising in Tek! app and track conversion, and ability to expose their inventory through the cloud PoS.

3) We will work on the carbon data once the app is accepted among consumers. We are working with few supply chain players of global commodity with managing farm-level inputs and data. It is possible we will get automated data inputs for select commodities.

Except in case 1 where we are forced to enter data in system, our method is to depend on ecosystem players to bring together data and help app users.
