Pitch

Relatively simple manufacturing equipment, which allows the reuse of debris to generate gas and fertilizer and saves nature.

Description

Summary

Agriculture is a human practice that transforms the ecosystems on which it affects the most diversified types of social, economic and environmental impacts. Understanding the nature of these impacts so that the conscious action of the human being allows valuing and amplifying those that seem positive and replacing and minimizing the negatives, assumes fundamental importance so that agriculture can promote better living conditions for the present generations without compromising the possibility of its practice Future generations. We have observed, in an increasingly intense way, the constant elevation of the average temperature of our planet. In Mozambique we have areas where it does not rain recently and others where it rains in too much; This increase in temperature is related to human action. The greenhouse effect is important for life on planet Earth because it keeps the planet warm, which allows life as we know it. However, with the use of biogas in the kitchens and the biofertilizer in agriculture, it will reduce the cutting of trees for the production of charcoal and firewood, as well as the degradation of soils and the production of toxic products due to the unregulated use of fertilizers And inorganic pesticides. The biodigestor has interesting advantages for the environmental issue, such as degradation of organic matter in the corrals, reduction of odors, reduction of flies in the area, reduction of coliforms above 99%, as well as the possibility of using the biogas produced as fuel and the Own biofertilizer.

Is this proposal for a practice or a project?

Project

What actions do you propose?

The objective of this project is to build and teach rural biodigestors in communities, which are model Biodigestors so that the community in general can learn how to prepare, construct and handle a rural biodigester, so that biodigestors can be built in the majority of Breeders of chickens, swine, cattle and goats and producers of agricultural products.

Who will take these actions?

In implementing this project in the district of Angónia, Start Up Empreendedores, EI, the Government represented by the District Economic Services and a funding partner will be involved, and Start Up Empreendedores, EI will be the main implementer.

Responsabilities of Start Up Empreendedores, EI

1 - To provide technicians for the assembly and operation of biodigesters,

2 - Coordinate the implementation of all training actions for farmers on biodigesters, biogas and biofertilizers, Install demonstration fields for agricultural production using biofertilizers;

3 - Manage all logistic activities linked to the project.

Responsabilities of SDAE

1 - Provide space for the materialization of the project,

2 - Identification of beneficiaries,

3 - Monitoring and evaluation of the project,

4 - Among others.

Funding: provide financial assistance for the project.

Where will these actions be taken?

District of Angónia, Administrative Post of Ulongué Headquarters. The Project may also benefit the surrounding communities, and may even include people from communities in neighboring provinces and districts.

Angónia is a district in the province of Tete, Mozambique, based in the village of Ulongué. It has a border, to the north and northeast with Malawi, the west with the district of Macanga and the south and east with the district of Tsangano. According to the 2007 census, the district had 335,808 inhabitants and an area of ??3437 km², hence resulting in a population density of 98 inhabitants per km². The district is divided in two administrative posts (Domué and Ulongué), composed by the following localities: Administrative Post of Domué: Binga, Catondo, Caphessa, Chifumbe, Domué, Khombe, Liranga, Mpandula, Ndaula, N'khame, Seze. Ulongué Administrative Post: Municipality of Ulongué, Chimwala, Dzuanga, Kalomwe, Man'gane, Mawonekera, Namigoha. It should be noted that in 2008 the town of Ulongué was elevated to the category of municipality.

Impact/Benefits

What impact will these actions have on greenhouse gas emissions and/or adapting to climate change?

There will be increased production and agricultural productivity with use of biofertilizers and improved community-based horticultural production, and the district will benefit from low-cost domestic gas. On the other hand, the use of biogas as a source of energy promotes the reduction of methane emissions, which will contribute to the environmental, economic and social aspects, as it can reduce costs for farmers and the community as a whole. The economics of Tete and Angónia in particular had no strong dependence on inorganic products, that is, being potentially vulnerable to climate change. The current energy matrix of the province, conditioned by the large deposits of coal or other minerals such as the use of inorganic fertilizers and other elements in agriculture, negatively affects the critical scenario of global warming, since the extraction of coal and its derivatives Large amounts of pollutants into the atmosphere. In this context, renewable energy production is an interesting measure from an environmental point of view as regards global pollution, since it allows the generation of energy without the use of fossil fuels and the consequent emission of polluting waste In the atmosphere.

What are other key benefits?

Twenty-four months after the start of implementation of the present project the following verifiable results are expected:

- Built and operated 10 biodigesters,
- Installed 10 production fields organic products,
- Producing 30m3 of biogas / month;
- Producing 1250L of biofertilizer / day
- 75% of Angonia vegetables produced on the basis of biofertilizers;
- 10% of maize producing in Angónia produced on the basis of biofertilizers;

This project will respond with the National Strategy for Adaptation and Mitigation of Climate Change of the MINISTRY FOR THE COORDINATION OF THE ENVIRONMENTAL ACTION OF MOZAMBIQUE:http://www.undp-aap.org/sites/undp-aap.org/files/Estrategia%20Nacional%20de%20Adaptacao%20e%20Mitigacao%20das%20Mudancas%20Climaticas%20versao%20final_0.pdf

Costs/Challenges

What are the proposal’s projected costs?

A -  Infrastructure  - USD 206.333,33

B- Office Equipment USD  - 6.266,67

C - Human Resources & Transportation - USD 168 000,00

D - Contingencies (5%)  - USD 19.030,00

Total: 399.630,00

Timeline

The project will last for 5 years in its initial phase and at the end of this period and we want that at the end of this period, half of the population of Angonia in tete abandon the practice of cutting trees for the production of charcoal and firewood, using in substitution Or biogas.

We also want 75% of potential farmers in the district to abandon the use of inorganic fertilizers and start using biofertilizers, which will boost organic farming in the district and province of Tete. We want that within 25 years, a large part of the population opts for the practice of organic agriculture and the use of biogas in the kitchens instead of firewood and charcoal, which will reduce the cutting of trees and deforestation.
