insitu conservation -Plant Genetic Resources-role women oasis- noregrets practice governance ecosystem- resilient practices drip irrigation

- rare and inefficient use of water resources

- Depletion of the diversity of plant genetic resources mainly through monoculture

- progression of uncultivated land

-impoverishment of small farmers

- Wild urbanization

- additional challenge of climate change

studies show that the first to suffer is the oasis ecosystem

Is this proposal for a practice or a project?

What actions do you propose?

What are other key benefits?

What are the proposal’s projected costs?

19.000 US Dollars

- time constraints

- reticent farmers

- difficulties to change long-established practices

- absence of follow up

In the short term the impact will be the iniation of farmers to adopt the techniques learned and to give them a sample of the prefered practices in the mamagement of their oasis parcels. In the long term, the impact is the acquisition and the establishment of new practices and know-how that would preserve the oasis ecosystems. Over time the farmers will become aware that their oasis is a site for local development and will stop abandoning their lands because water is rare
