This proposal seeks to tackle an important problem - waste. It offers an innovative idea - a mobile app to enable the buying and selling of waste. It is unclear, however, what type of waste will be traded, who would be buying it, why, and at what cost. The waste discussed in the proposal - plastic bottles, bags, etc. - is low value and accumulated in small quantities by individuals. It is unclear whether the suggestion is for individual users or for companies, stores, etc. The proposal claims that the app would aggregate data and ensure that the waste is collected quickly and efficiently but it is not clear how that would happen. The video link does not work and the app is not available for review (at least not in the US). It is therefore impossible to evaluate the feasibility and impact of this proposal.
It is a potentially Interesting idea, but I'd like to see more evidence that the source of the waste problem really is connecting waste to potential users of that waste. I was also a bit unclear about why the size of the funding request ($720k) is so large given the work that they are suggesting they will do, so I guess that means the exact nature of how they will spend the budget to achieve their objectives is unclear to me.)

Innovative and appealing and solving a real problem in terms of waste generation. Rather unambitious in terms of seed funding sought an scaling ( 2more countries in 2 years!) needs a much more ambitious plan in order to be considered impactful. Also needs to look into waste reduction at source rather than just waste recycling and use. As with most if not all these proposals they do not seem to be based on bring together other proposals?
 Chifungu Samazaka Feb 1, 2018 07:08  | Proposal creator We’ve incorporated 6 proposals from around the world which look into waste reduction at source rather than just waste recycling and use, as well as, the promotion of innovative climate adaptation and mitigation solutions via social media and community meet-ups that could accelerate adoption in different countries and cities. We’ve also revised our funding requirements from $50,000 to $720,000 to give us an 18-month runway, targeting a global market, particularly developing economies. We envision a future of smart bins and electric vehicles autonomously collecting and transferring waste from producers to buyers and waste-to-energy plants powering this infrastructure. We are looking to learn more from CoLab mentors as well as fellow competitors about how to create the greatest impact locally and globally, for example, when and how best to scale beyond Zambia and traction. Recyclebot will succeed no matter what, but raising money will help us do it faster. We want to collaborate with other teams from different countries as that could accelerate our learning curve and also help us co-create a more sustainable solution that will scale big and fast. |
