Pitch

Electricity is only 200 yrs old. Can we go off it?

Description

Summary

My time in other countries and places was extremely pleasant without electricity and with less tech and more nature.

Why do we need electricity?  Why was it invented?

Is this proposal for a practice or a project?

Practice

What actions do you propose?

Government or philanthropic organizations (both are robber barons anyway) could support communities that want to learn to live with nature again, self sufficiently, like the amish or the homeless or animals do.

Such communities will continue to have public libraries for internet connection and social services.

Transportation would be limited again, I suppose to animals and foot ... with potentially the use of landfill materials

Food through foraging, dumpster diving, agriculture by artificial or natural waterways

People could also stand to wean themselves off money and maybe property

Language and communication technology can be reduced back to chi, life energy, body vibes, telepathy, emotional compassion, such as enables most of society

Who will take these actions?

Actually i have tried contacting cities like berkeley and organizations like Berkeley ecology center, but everyone is very conservative in their actions, don't want to part with modern life as it is.

But really today's civilization is built on military history

What misery that human life itself depends even for food on exploitation of other living things such as crops, and forest timber and cotton plants for many other things...

Where will these actions be taken?

Anywhere that culture and government and habitat conditions allow -

Currently urban environments are soo dependent on the social system and money and imports, rural ones heavily dependent on vehicles, northern climates dependent on winter technology (though again electricity only in the past 200 years);

Everyone everywhere has become so dependent on money and job

*** but overall climate change is a first world problem in need of, in my view, some 'downward mobility'

In addition, specify the country or countries where these actions will be taken.

Impact/Benefits

What impact will these actions have on greenhouse gas emissions and/or adapting to climate change?

If need is reduced, people could even continue to use fossil fuels without creating net greenhouse effect.

What are other key benefits?

I am just totally aghast at human history and this would be a return to the lifestyles of cultures that have been pooh poohed by modern hierarchical times, not necessarily with good cause.

I do absolutely remorse that human and other life at its most basic will still continue to depend on taking from and damaging and causing pain to other life like plants bacteria and others; and I do not easily see the situation in a more positive way than that

Costs/Challenges

What are the proposal’s projected costs?

Extreme cultural change is involved, with emotional downsides, as we have grown used to modern society like soda addicts - even staples like flour oil sugar and soap are all heavily processed

There is not much social safety net for poverty by choice in industrialized nations, although religion (with all its faults) does recognize the virtues of poverty

Respect and enthusiasm is lacking for basic and simple and available, as opposed to complicated exclusive and mysterious

Timeline

If we really take climate change seriously and literally, and negate possibility of or desire for spiritual intervention to prop up our ugly and sinful social infrastrcuture,

Then energy abolition could go a long way.

Covid prioritizing essential work has gone part of the way, but shockingly, energy use decreased only by 17%, not, say, 89%.
