Pitch

Harnessing lightning via lightning rod connected to ultra-high voltage power loop to charge superconducting magnetic energy storages.

Description

Summary

Although lightning is not the only solution for clean energy, it sure can be a big part of the solution. We shouldn't concentrate on only one clean energy source, but combine as much as we can to not only think of the energy households consume, but also at the demand of electrical cars.

I also have a great location to start capturing lightning and hopefully distributing energy where lightning storms occur 140 to 160 nights per year in a concentrated location.
Catatumbo lightning (Spanish: Relámpago del Catatumbo)[1] is an atmospheric phenomenon in Venezuela. It occurs only over the mouth of the Catatumbo River where it empties into Lake Maracaibo.

Sure the idea of harnessing lightning for energy is not new but the new technology of ultra-high voltage power is now capable of withstanding the high voltage of lightning and distribute it throughout a mesh of ultra-high voltage cables like a spider web to distinct loops at the end of each point of the web. Once the energy from lightning is captured in the ultra-high voltage grid we have two options:
1. Distribute: the ultra-high voltage power grid can distribute the energy for long distances and slowly release energy once energy is safe enough to avoid damage to the electrical companies power grids along the routes of the distribution.
2. Storage: Connected throughout the web and loops we can store energy in superconducting magnetic energy storages and SHIP to power supply companies to minimize loss of energy through distribution.

Is this proposal for a practice or a project?

Not sure

What actions do you propose?

Help build prototype to confirm that energy from lightning can be either distributed to the power grid or stored.

Who will take these actions?

Hopefully technology can be shared worldwide.

Where will these actions be taken?

Best place to start the project will be in areas in which lightning occurs frequently in a small area like the atmospheric phenomena in lake Maracaibo in Venezuela.

In addition, specify the country or countries where these actions will be taken.

Impact/Benefits

What impact will these actions have on greenhouse gas emissions and/or adapting to climate change?

Harnessing lightning can be part of a combination of clean energy sources that can diminish the use of fossil fuels worldwide.

What are other key benefits?

Diminish the cost of energy worldwide and help with the transition towards electrical cars.
