Semi-Finalist Evaluation

Judges'' comments

The proposal seems to be very interesting and its touching topics, like the ones of the vernacular architecture and reuse, are extremely actual. Learning from the solutions of the past, to solve the problems of the future, is an attractive line of investigation in several research fields that often brings fascinating outputs. Nevertheless, adding some more explanations about the strategy and the methodology could be appreciable. For example, it is not so clear if the project wants to take Mayan Houses as references (with their environmental values and sustainable features) for contemporary constructions or if the project wants to propose just a preservation of the existing Mayan Houses.

Preservation of traditional architecture is an important component of addressing climate change. However, more detail is needed for this proposal to be scalable: specifically around whether communities are willing to not live in "modern" buildings vs. older ones, and how the benefits of traditional buildings can be communicated to them, especially if they are looking for better services.
