Help the farmers of the future in the Andes to prepare for the impact of the climate change

Vision: For the farmer of the future in emerging markets it becomes a challenge to deal with the effects of climate change, in addition to the fact that he/she has to produce more than his/her parents. In the next years, the impact of these effects will continue to increase.

Mission: Through the EduClima program, we want to teach -in 5 years- 2.5 million students from 50.000 rural primary schools in emerging markets about climate and climate change. An internet-connected climate station will play an important role in achieving this. This station has a production cost of less then € 200, while the internet connectivity costs are € 3/year.

Is this proposal for a practice or a project?

What actions do you propose?

  1. Developing and marketing of sensor stations that enables climate indicators to be registered on the Internet from any location in the Andes.
  2. Target phase: In the first phase, spreading knowledge about the impact of climate change, aimed at the agricultural sector in the Andes in general and on farmer’s children in the Andes in particular will be the focus of the program.
  3. Partner phase: In the second phase, we will teach a selection of the farmer's children about the highlights of climate smart agriculture in a one week workshop. The children who have shown most interest in working with the data of the climate station, will be invited to participate.
  4. Leader phase: In the third phase, a selection of the workshop participants will be offered a 2 year support program on the in- and outs- of climate smart agriculture.
