Pitch
The proposal envisage utilization of water hyacinth for textile organic fibre sythesis and its utilization in the treatment of dye effluent.
Description
Summary
Since the year 2007, The world bank has spend US$ 22.00 Million in the East Africa commission countries in an effort to bring the Lake Victoria back to its pristine ecosystem.
Anthropogenic activities around the lake have resulted in the mineralization of the lake hence eutrophication of the water hyacinth and other aquatic plants. this situation have negatively impacted on communities that heavily relied on the Lake for social and economic sustainability. As a result, its dependents have opted for other endeavors that are both risky and unsustainable.
To mitigate negative impact that have come a long, this proposal suggests synthesis of organic fibre for the water hyacinth for textiles generation while using the same plant for phytoremediation of the textile industry dye effluent while helping in the reduction of the plant in the Lake Victoria in Kenya.
