Good idea, will help people generating the waste earn some money out of the waste they generate. Hope this does not turn into a main earning activity! I request you to kindly consider a request to households to separate and store with them the fruit-seeds and not to throw fruit-seeds as waste. The fruit-seeds could be utilized for a much better purpose. Following is a link to such a proposal. https://www.climatecolab.org/web/guest/plans/-/plans/contestId/1300103/planId/1310401 Kindly consider this & give your valuable opinion. Thanks & Sincere Regards,

Thank you @waghhm, must say I considered this option after coming across this article (http://www.cnn.com/2014/09/24/politics/seattle-composting-law/) by CNN. I checked out your proposal and it looks like an amazing project, I was hoping you were going to undertake the project yourself but i realized you made it a global action by anyone. It would have been easier to collaborate with your project (if you were personally undertaking it) to fuse it into mine. I have few concerns on how to integrate it into my project and I hope you can advice me so I can fuse it in. They are: 1. Ghanaians have loads of issues when it comes to land rights and use (I am sure its same everywhere). So do we have to purchase lands, use government lands or talk to individuals to obtain their lands for the planting of the seeds? 2. Who will take care of these fruit plants or trees when they have been planted. I know you addressed these in your proposal but consider the fact that my proposal is mainly on waste management, so if I want to add tree planting to it i have to do it such a way that it doesn't affect my focus and have huge implications on my budget. Once again thank you for the comment @waghhm, hope to receive your reply. Sincere Regards.

Thanks for a detailed reply, Your plan is for generating some income through waste, these are practiced at a scattered level in India with people purchasing scrap from household. None purchases kitchen waste and if you succeed in creating an economic incentive out of organic waste it would be very useful. My central issue is use of wasted fruit seeds. Regarding the issues you raised-- 1)- every region would have land issues, along with your focus you request the clients to seggregate the fruit seeds, store and spread, at most proper season, those onto the land adjucent to home/office/workplace/recreationplace/sports-ground etc. This manner you would keep your focus and add this to your focus. No money needed for saying this to people. 2) As the plants emerge some may be eaten by cattle, herbivores. Those which grow big wouldn't need to be taken care of. Chance of some growing big increases with greater numbers of seeds spread. If the people living nearby take part in the care for trees they stand to gain as they would get benefits in the form of fruits. I hope you find my reply OK in the context of you overall theme.. Thanks once again..

I have one request to make; when you implement the fruit-seed store-spread activity kindly mention the name of Swami Vivekananda (a great soul from India) and kindly try to add the name of sage from your country so that this ongoing activity would be known by those two names. Thanks and Sincere Regards..

Thank you for taking a look at my proposal @aissatoudiagne. I am yet to complete the costing of the project. I am taking my time to ensure I capture all aspects of direct and indirect cost that the will be incurred, but I hope to finish and update it before the week ends. Thank you for the comment.

I definitely support your proposal. Well, actually your idea already running in Indonesia especially for highly-populated urban cities since the high volume of daily waste production. Sounds good that in Ghana there are some recycling companies, while here we found creative societies that recycling the waste into creative products. The plus is social participation and community empowerment, but the minus is due to small-scale operation, it would just give small impact nationally. I hope in Ghana, not only recycling companies will develop but also enable communities to actively participating and contributing. Thank you.

Hi Stevie, thank you for supporting my proposal, I am glad this project is similarly been undertaken in Indonesia. I can say that my proposal will empower the community, most noticeable will be empowerment through employment both directly and indirectly. The project will directly employing the unemployed youth in Ghana and indirectly creating employment by paying community members that gather waste and bring it to our Hubs for payment and this I am sure will involve a lot of women in the society. Anyway I hope to get more information and links to these projects being undertaken in your country. Best Regards

Dear Abraham, I like your idea about collecting the recyclable wastes and then handle them together in a large scale. I hope it works very well in Ghana! I have a question about the Fig. 1.1. Do the numbers reflect the annual wastes collection in Ghana or just in the city of Accra? Thanks! Best, Xiaoyu

Hi Xiaoyu, Thank you very much for taking time to read my proposal. Fig 1.1 looks at Accra since it will be the city for our pilot. Within the first two years the project will look at establishing itself and making enough profit to cover its cost of initiation then now look at expanding into other cities and towns. Again thanks for reading my proposal. Appreciated! Best Regards Abraham

Hello, Abraham. It seems that you are very passionated in this project proposal. I really appreciate your efforts and wish the best. The project being undertaken in Indonesia called bank sampah (waste bank), in which peoples could separate their rubbish into organic and non-organic, and some of it are recyclable such as paper, glass, bottles, plastic, and metals. They could get some money by deposit their recyclable waste. Here is the link for your kind reference: http://blogs.worldbank.org/eastasiapacific/waste-not-want-not-waste-banks-indonesia And unfortunately many more in Bahasa Indonesia not English. I hope your proposal could be implemented properly and comprehensively. Regards, Steve Harison

Dear Contributor, excellent idea, small, focus, precise and attanaible. However, my question are the following. Who will pay for the waste? Be aware that local governments do not have money for collecting waste than they will not have money to pay for it. Would you explore the creation of biofuels or energy from waste?. Be aware about toher projects like those in China or India or South America with the same problems and might be helpful for your proposal. Best regards. Sergio Pena Conector Catalyst.

Hi Sergio, I can't state how important your comment is, it was a daunting issue during the proposal creation. For the pilot to start we did not want to increase cost and labor by engaging in further activities in the name of raising funds for payment of waste which could distract our focus. We then decided to add the cost of payment for waste materials for at least the first month into the costing of the entire project, we plan to manage this fund in a very sustainable way to ensure there will be more money for payments in the subsequent months. This cost can be found in figure2.1-item 8, in the cost section of the proposal. And yes we will explore the creation of biofuels or energy from waste but not within the short term of the project operation. We plan to take these actions and also build our own recycling plants within our medium term of operation as we have already outlined in our time line. We would love to hear more suggestions from you on how to internally generate funds to help with the payments of the waste materials. once again thank you very much Sergio. Regards. Abraham (G4CC)
