Congratulations! Your proposal, Utilizing Molecularly Imprinted Technology to Selectively Filter Pollutants in the Industry contest, has been selected to advance to the Finalists round.

Be proud of your accomplishment – more than 350 proposals were submitted and only a very small number have been advanced through these two rounds of judging.

As a Finalist, your proposal is eligible for the contest’s Judges Choice award, as well as the contest’s Popular Choice award, which is determined by public voting.

If you haven’t already, you will soon receive an email from the Climate CoLab staff with details about the voting period. If you don’t receive that email within the next day, or have other questions, please contact the Climate CoLab staff at admin@climatecolab.org

All winners will be announced the week after the voting period ends, on September 12, 2015 at midnight Eastern Time.

Both Judges Choice and Popular Choice will receive a special invitation to attend selected sessions at MIT’s SOLVE conference and present their proposals before key constituents in a workshop the next day, where a $10,000 Grand Prize will be awarded. A few select Climate CoLab winners will join distinguished SOLVE attendees in a highly collaborative problem-solving session. Some contests have additional prizes given by the contest sponsor.

2015 Climate CoLab Judges



Good work and thank you for a clear thoughtful write-up. Nice application that takes current technology and imagines its possibilities. Also the concept seems practical.

The proposal is interesting, but not unheard of. This concept is not new and is gaining momentum across the research communities. We see it as a "great race" to develop the MIPs cost-effectively, with a considerable amount of lab-scale R&D needed to "tune" MIPs for specific conversion targets.

The proposal is clear, persuasive, and appealing. It is optimistic (as most chemist researchers are) that this work will be the one the makes the "break through".

In general, we do like this proposal mainly because of its "seed funding" potential. Establishing R&D experience in this field is needed to successfully attract the larger funding likely needed to bring this technology to the market place. And the more researchers working on it the better!

Summary of changes made: I addressed the low novelty score by discussing the possibility of using recent polymer nanostructures such as polymer nanotubes, and nanoporous polymer membranes to increase the efficiency of the MIP filters. I addressed the judge's comment on cost-effective R&D and feasibility by citing sources where computer modeling was used to aid the design of effective MIPs. Such advances require less experienced researchers to design the MIPs, reducing cost. I addressed the impact score and the novelty by broadening the scope of the proposal to include different, lesser acknowledged pollutants like the fluorocarbons as an ideal target for MIP filters. I addressed the presentation by including linked citations, and editing wording and sentence structure etc. I reached out to ClimateColab Fellow Osero Shadrack Tengeya for help in editing the proposal, and making sure it effectively addressed the judges comments, and the rating. Thank you for considering my proposal, I put a lot of time and effort into optimizing it and I hope you find it promising. Alex Krotz
